Four Seasons To Be Heard in Dec. QAC Court

I hear the continuing saga of the Four Seasons court battle will resume in December 2007 in Queen Anne's County Circuit Court with Judge John Sause who will be hearing the case.

I only hope that we can put to rest this project and move forward with Four Seasons. It is evident that we have wasted too much our taxpayer's money on this issue. We need to know when to stop and cut our losses. After all, it has been an eight years span since this fight began between a couple of no growthers which eventually was propelled into the political scene making top headlines across the state.

Many times, I think good intentions go bad...I don't believe no growthers or environmentalists are out to destroy our county, I simply think they don't grasp what makes our county productive and sustainable. Sometimes, self-proclaimed town criers and wealthy neighborhoods kill good smart-growth projects in the name of aesthetics or other feelings that mask a range of true motives: fear of change, fear of who might move in next to them, fear of diversity or fear of dissatisfaction with the upgrade. We must act despite our fears for what we know is right; that my friends is called courage.

To recap the story, K. Hovnanian, the developer plans and hopes to build 1350 single-family homes and townhouses on Kent Island.

The developer is appealing the state's denial of a wetlands permit for the project. The court petition was filed in Queen Anne's County Circuit Court In June 2007 -- nine days after the permit request was rejected by the state Board of Public Works.

The developer, Four Seasons at Kent Island, is planning an age-restricted community on 550 acres north of Route 50.

I think in this case it is K. Hov that is wasting the taxpayers money. They are the one's that filed the appeal, not the State.

I think you have it wrong...what I meant is that QAC has held this project up so long. And everytime it is stalled by the efforts of our commissioners-we are paying out the ying yang for attorney fees and other associated court costs. It was the commissioners (last term) that filed appeal and cost us plenty plus the fact that we missed out on the thousands of dollars that K. Hov. was going to give us for needed services.

As taxpayers we don't care if K. Hov. files the appeal- they are spending their own money for their own legal counsel and court costs.
